North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will welcome three distinguished alumni to address the class of 2025 during its 145th Commencement Exercises, scheduled for May 9-10, 2025, in McDougald-McLendon Arena at 700 E. Lawson St.  

Speakers include Durham Mayor Leo Williams ’05,’15, Pulitzer-nominated journalist Ernie Suggs ’90 and public affairs strategist Reggie McCrimmon ‘13. 
 
NCCU will host three ticketed ceremonies to honor its spring graduates.

Leading the Charge: Impact of Youth on Achieving SDGs

From organizing pro-democratic protests in Hong Kong and Belarus to advocacy campaigns throughout the U.S. on climate change and gun laws, Generation Z is spurring governments and businesses across the globe to take real action on a range of social issues and UN Sustainable Development Goals by leveraging digital media, purchasing power, and conscious investing. Likewise, Millennials are investing and seeking employment from companies that have like-minded values. This session will examine how governments and businesses are monitoring and responding to these youth indicators and how we can anticipate greater influence from the younger generation in all global affairs going forward.

NCCU 2020 Honors Recognition

The University recognizes students in a number of categories, from the Chancellor’s Award and University Award recipients — the university’s top honors — to deans’ lists and departmental academic honors. In addition, students are recognized for distinctions in scholarly groups, honor societies and scholarships. The groups, societies and scholarships listed in this convocation program are those submitted by deans, chairs and directors of each respective academic unit.

Former two term, Student Body President Reggie McCrimmon will deliver the convocation address.
